You can make your place mats any way you want. If you want to make place mats from patterns, Pinterest has an abundance of free patterns.

Things you need to bring Things that will be provided
  • Sewing machine
  • Pins, thread, scissors, etc.
  • Place mat fabric
  • Your own chair, if desired (optional
  • Power cords and surge protectors
  • A small ironing mat and a small iron if you’ll be using a quilt as you go method
  • Your own lunch and beverage(s)
  • (optional) Batting scraps that can be cut into 15 x 20 inch sizes, to add to the supply stack
  • Tables and folding chairs
  • Two cutting stations and ironing boards
  • Dessert and small snacks
  • Place mat batting and interfacing

We will be demonstrating how to make the placemats with a quilt as you go method. If you plan to do this:

  • Bring strips of coordinating fabrics cut 1 ½ to 3 inches. Varying widths make a more interesting placemat. The length should be 15 inches or 30 inches if you want to make a set of matching placemats. You will need enough strips to make your placemats 18 inches wide (remember you will lose your ¼ seam allowance).
  • You will also need a backing fabric cut 15 x 20 inches. We realize these sizes are bigger than a normal place mat but it gives you an allowance to trim it to the correct size (18 x 13).

You should be able to make at least 3 place mats if you stay all day. We will finish these with a normal quilt binding.

*Please park in the parking lot on the back by the playground. Enter by the door where the two buildings meet. We will have signs helping with directions.
